HOME to open music tech hub at Liverpool Royal Court
The international network for music entrepreneurs, investors and creatives is backed by Liverpool City Council and the city region's combined authority.
House Of Music & Entertainment (HOME), a global network linking entrepreneurs, investors and creatives, is to open a workspace at Liverpool’s Royal Court later in the year.
The Liverpool site, due to open in July, will act as a base for the music and music tech industry and help local businesses access international opportunities.
Its backers are Liverpool City Council, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and industry partners such as MusicTech UK (MTUK) and MusicFutures, and is intended to strengthen the city region’s growing profile for music innovation and creative technology.
HOME says it chose Liverpool because of its rising international standing in music innovation, supported by its UNESCO City of Music status, MusicFutures, the leadership of the Liverpool Music Office and Liverpool City Region Music Board, and growing joint work across the research, digital and creative sectors.
A recent study, commissioned by Liverpool City Council and published with the combined authority and MusicFutures, found the city region’s music economy is already worth about £780 million a year and supports more than 14,000 jobs. It concluded the sector is on course to become a £1 billion industry by 2035.
What HOME offers
HOME runs collaborative workspaces, industry events and international partnerships for people in music and technology, helping businesses reach new markets and build relationships across its global community.
With existing hubs and partner sites in Tokyo, Berlin and London, it says it can help Liverpool attract investment, develop talent and speed up growth in music technology, the creative industries and digital innovation.
The Royal Court site will host investor showcases, networking events, visiting international delegations, business support and joint projects, with the aim of making Liverpool a gateway for overseas investment in media, music and technology.
Businesses, freelancers and entrepreneurs in the city region’s music and music tech sectors will also gain access to international networks, investors, markets and partnerships.
The move is part of Liverpool’s broader international engagement programme, which aims to build links with investors, entrepreneurs and creative businesses in key global markets and support sector growth and inward investment.
Cllr Harry Doyle, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and culture, said: “Liverpool’s creative reputation is known around the world, but what’s really exciting is how we’re building on that heritage to drive innovation and opportunity today.
“The arrival of HOME in the city is another strong signal that Liverpool is becoming a leading destination for music technology and creative enterprise.
“By bringing together artists, entrepreneurs and investors in one place, this hub will help unlock new ideas, support local talent and strengthen our position on the global stage.”
Andy Allen, CEO of HOME, said: “Liverpool is one of the most exciting, creative and music innovation ecosystems in the UK. The hub will help strengthen connections between the city region and a global network of businesses and investors.”
