Maven leads follow-on funding round for Newcastle fintech Kani Payments

The payment reconciliation specialist, which has reconciled more than €24 billion in payments, will invest in products ahead of new regulations.

Kani Payments

Newcastle fintech Kani Payments has raised more money in a round led by Maven Capital Partners.

The Maven VCTs took part, as did NPIF II – Maven Equity Finance, a fund Maven runs under the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II (NPIF II).

Kani was set up to tackle the payment reconciliation and reporting problems facing banks, other fintechs and payment companies. Its award-winning software-as-a-service platform automates and simplifies workflows, saving clients time and money while keeping them fully compliant with industry and regulatory standards.

Maven first invested in early 2025 to help Kani develop its platform, expand the team and grow its customer base. Since then the company has grown strongly, made several senior hires and won a number of notable new clients.

The new funding will pay for product development ahead of new rules that will oblige firms to reconcile client funds in an audit-ready form across UK and global payments markets. It will also support several new customer partnerships and faster international expansion.

Kani works across five continents and has reconciled more than €24 billion (£21bn) in processed payments so far. Financial services businesses using the platform include Cardaq, IDT, Pluxee and TransactPay.

Rebecca Minchella, investment manager at Maven Capital Partners, said: “Kani has achieved impressive growth since our initial investment, and we have been really impressed by the expertise and conviction of the team to address the challenges facing fintechs in a fast, evolving payments industry.”

She said demand for Kani's product would continue as payment reconciliation and compliance become more complex. “Following a number of significant customer wins, we are delighted to support the team as they scale and accelerate their international expansion.”

Aaron Holmes, chief executive of Kani Payments, said: “Maven has been a hugely supportive partner since their initial investment, and we’re pleased to have their continued backing as we enter the next phase of Kani’s growth. This investment will allow us to keep investing in our platform and supporting payment companies facing growing reconciliation and regulatory complexity.”

Sarah Newbould, senior investment manager at the British Business Bank, said: “Kani Payments is tackling a critical challenge for financial services firms as payment ecosystems become more complex. Through NPIF II we are committed to backing ambitious technology businesses that are building solutions with global relevance, while continuing to grow from the North East.”

“It’s these businesses that are helping to drive forward the government’s Industrial Strategy, boosting UK economic growth while creating new jobs and opportunities for people across the North,” she added.
