Carbon Creative refreshes Salford Lads & Girls Club brand and website
The MediaCity agency delivered a new site and brand refresh in six weeks, donating £4,818 of time to the first phase.
Salford Lads & Girls Club has a new website and refreshed brand, created by Carbon Creative.
The restored venue, rescued after a major fundraising campaign, has attracted growing attention lately, including when Manchester United chose it as the setting for its new kit launch.
MediaCity-based Carbon Creative was given just 6 weeks to deliver the website and brand refresh.
The work was designed to support the Club’s continuing activity with young people in Salford and to present the Club as it is now, an active youth organisation for local young people and the community around it.
Rose and arch retained
The identity keeps the rose and arch that have stood for the Club for generations. Carbon said the refresh gives it greater flexibility across print, digital and merchandise.
The arch now frames content throughout the new site and has been given a standalone logo of its own next to the main rose mark. The typography has been updated for readability while referencing the period in which the Club was founded.
The Grade II listed building has offered sporting, social and community activities to local young people since 1903. The brief was to appeal to several audiences: young people and parents seeking activities, heritage visitors, and anyone hoping to book the venue.
Carbon gave £4,818 worth of hours to Phase 1 and plans to donate more time to Phase 2.
“I’ve really loved working on this project. My partner is from Salford and music is a huge part of our lives, especially The Smiths – so I already knew the club and some of its history before we started. But getting to work with the team and understand more about what the club does today has given me a completely different appreciation for it,” said Ell, Senior Digital Project Manager at Carbon Creative.
“There are so many different sides to its story, from the music and football connections to its heritage and, most importantly, the work it continues to do with young people in Salford. It’s been really rewarding helping to bring all of that together through the new website. And we’re not finished yet; we’ve got a Phase 2 planned where we’ll be able to push the site and its storytelling even further, which I’m really excited to get stuck into!”
‘Much more like us’
Deena Mahmoud, Commercial Operations Manager at Salford Lads & Girls Club, said: “Working with Carbon Creative has been such a positive experience for Salford Lads & Girls Club. From the very beginning, they took the time to really understand who we are, what we stand for and what makes the Club so special.
“They’ve helped us bring together our heritage, our work with young people and the community, our culture and music, our events and our commercial opportunities in a way that feels much more like us. The new website has given us a much stronger digital presence and, more importantly, a platform that properly reflects where Salford Lads & Girls Club is today while still celebrating everything that has made the Club what it is for 123 years.”
