Reach relaunches Southport Visiter and The Journal as subscription newsletters
The publisher has opened registration pages for both historic titles as it gauges interest in hyperlocal newsletters.
Reach has unveiled new online homes for two of its historic titles, the Southport Visiter and The Journal.
The publisher opened registration pages for both sites this morning as it “gathers interest” in a pair of hyperlocal newsletters.
“I’m really excited about this new stage in our approach to hyper-local and community-driven news. The Southport Visiter and The Journal are two very different brands, but they’ve both served their communities since the 1800s with a clear sense of identity and purpose,” said Paul Rowland, Editorial Director (News) at Reach.
“We’re now setting these brands up for the future by re-imagining them as subscription-based newsletters, bringing that same voice and values to readers, but in a format that’s set up for busy 21st century lives. They’ll be authentic, local, useful, personality-led, and built on a legacy of trust from nearly 200 years of serving the community.”
The Journal has covered the North East since 1832. Its editor, Graeme Whitfield, said the newsletter would be “the definitive voice of the region, curated with authority, sharp opinion, and a sense of pride in place.” It will go out six days a week.
The Visiter newsletter will be edited by Ben Haslam. The Southport title dates from 1844, making it a little younger than its North East counterpart.
