BBC Sport launches BBC Football YouTube channel and 20-club fan collective

Four new YouTube formats, a refreshed app and new Match of the Day voices form part of its men’s football plans for 2026/27.

BBC Sport

BBC Sport is expanding its men’s football coverage this season with four new YouTube formats, a fan collective covering all 20 Premier League clubs, new Match of the Day guest pundits alongside Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, Micah Richards and others, and more personalised features in the BBC Sport app.

For the 2026/27 season the BBC will show live games, highlights and clips covering the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, Bundesliga, LaLiga and Serie A, plus Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland internationals. Coverage will run on radio and TV, BBC Sounds, BBC iPlayer, YouTube, social media and the BBC Sport app and website.

BBC director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski said: “Football means something different to every fan, and this season BBC Sport is putting those fans even more firmly at the heart of the game. We’re bringing together the unrivalled expertise of former players and managers with the passion, personality and perspectives of supporters themselves to create a richer football experience wherever and however audiences follow the game.

“There are new shows, new voices and new ways to get closer to the action – alongside the trusted coverage millions of fans already turn to, from Match of the Day to BBC Radio 5 Live.”

New YouTube formats

The new BBC Football YouTube channel opens with four formats.

FANS² brings rival supporters together and tasks them with agreeing a single answer to a contentious football question, with no draws allowed.

The Truth About Football looks at the forces shaping the sport, drawing on data, tactics, history, culture, psychology and animation to answer a big question in each 90-second episode.

Golden Goal takes a physical goal to unusual locations, where well-known football fans test their skills, answer questions and talk about what the game means to them while competing for a leaderboard place.

Football Hub is a weekly breakdown of the weekend’s matches, covering tactics, tackles and talking points and testing the weekend’s biggest opinions.

Group Chat and Game Changes, which began during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, are back for the new season.

Fan collective and app

For the first time, BBC Sport has formed a fan collective representing every Premier League club. The group of fans, personalities and creators will provide reaction, opinion and debate throughout the season on the BBC Football YouTube channel and the app’s Shorts feed, alongside BBC Sport’s journalism and analysis.

The refreshed app lets fans pick their club through ‘My Sport’ to get personalised updates and live score alerts. The Shorts feed will add more fan content, weekly contributions from the collective and material from clubs throughout the football pyramid.

Building on its World Cup predictor, BBC Sport is introducing MOTD Predictor this season, asking fans to forecast results, and the Who Am I? daily puzzle returns.

Match of the Day

Match of the Day returns and will develop over the season, bringing technology used during the 2026 World Cup into domestic coverage through enhanced studio analysis.

Kelly Somers is back with The Football Interview, featuring candid conversations about players’ motivations, ambitions and lives away from football. The first episode of the season, available on Saturday 22 August, features Tottenham Hotspur’s James Maddison.

The Football Interview airs every Saturday at 12:45 on BBC One while the Premier League season runs, and can also be found on the BBC Sport website and app, BBC iPlayer and BBC Football YouTube.

Plans for women’s football coverage will be announced shortly.
