BBC Radio Scotland presenters Judith Ralston and Phil Goodlad are walking three-legged for BBC Children in Need as part of this year’s radio fundraising challenge.

Each year BBC radio stations across the country set themselves a target to raise money and awareness for the charity. In 2025 presenters are aiming to walk a combined 1,000 miles, tied at the leg to a range of guests.

Weather presenter Ralston and sports presenter Goodlad are taking part on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 November, joined by well-known faces and representatives of charities that have received BBC Children in Need funding.

The pair will cover six three-legged miles each day towards the shared BBC target.

Pudsey the bear joined them in Glasgow for a training session, along with two of their walking partners, Nicola Meighan, a writer and broadcaster, and BBC news correspondent Jamie McIvor.

Ralston said: “I am feeling apprehensive because it is an awful lot harder than I expected. I think it’s going to be very tiring. I can feel it’s physically harder than I expected. That was a big surprise to me because you just think its walking, don’t you? And I think you’re going to have to mentally be on it. You can’t take your concentration off for a second.”

As well as Meighan, Ralston will walk with Karen Dunbar and representatives of charities supported by BBC Children in Need.

Goodlad said: “Coming from my background in local radio in Shetland, the national programme was one of our biggest days of the year. There’s a real sense that everybody comes together as one to raise money. And I think it’s lovely to be able to be doing that because it is such a good cause.”

McIvor added: “There is nothing I would not do to support BBC Children in Need and this is one of the privileges of working for the BBC. I remember back to when I was a wee boy, I always gave my pocket money to BBC Children in Need.”
